In an interview with BusinessWorld, Mr. Rebolledo's widow, Josefina Rebolledo recalls the humble beginnings of her family's 30-plus-year old business. "My husband was an artist. When he was growing up, he took it upon himself to learn to cook and design. He was a teacher by profession and he made cakes only on his freetime," Ms. Rebolledo said. She adds that her husband started out with table centerpieces and Christmas decorations. among his first clients were Botica Boi in Escolta and, then congressman Ferdinand Marcos. After more than 30 years, Dexter's remains a family-owned business, headed by Ms. Rebolledo. Dexter's creative team is composed of Raymund, Ronnie and Roland who personally design and create the shop's impressive lineup of weddingcakes.

"My sons joined the cake decorating competition of the Chefs on Parade that year (1989)...they won for three consecutive years. We really pushed the business when my husband passed away... we worked hard and soon people realized that we were still the same Dexter's Bakeshop," Ms. Rebolledo asaid. "My son Raymund, is already in the hall of fame for awards in cake design. We have been consistent awardees of the Chefs on Parade design competitions. Last February, Dexter's Bakeshop opened its third and biggest branch along White Plains. The new branch features not only for the more popular wedding cakes but also a coffee shop and restaurant. For his part, Roland said the opening of the coffee shop is a dream come true for him, being a hotel and restaurant management graduate. " We always wanted to put up a coffee shop. This new shop is like a dream come true for us, especially for me since I get to practice what I learned in school-restaurant management."
